Principles guiding our sustainability work
Alva’s sustainability work is informed by Finland’s national climate and energy strategy objectives, including reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. Our owner, the City of Jyväskylä, also expects us to operate responsibly and create positive impact.
Our approach is based on clear goals and commitments. We respect the principles of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and support the City of Jyväskylä’s resource wisdom objectives at the local level. We are committed to respecting human rights throughout our value chain and align our operations with internationally recognised frameworks, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the ILO Core Labour Standards, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

Non-combustion energy production
Alva has introduced two major non-combustion energy production solutions in Jyväskylä: a new heat pump plant built alongside the Nenäinniemi wastewater treatment facility and a large-scale thermal energy storage unit located at the Rauhalahti power plant site. These systems are now integrated into the district heating network, significantly reducing emissions from heat production.
